The Exam
FCOG EXAM OVERVIEW:
FCOG PART 1 EXAM:
Two written papers (no oral examination) as follows:
Part IA: Basic Sciences (3 hours)
- 3 hour paper with 4 questions.
- Essay Questions (questions 1-3) = total of 75 marks (25% of total mark)
- MCQ (question 4) = 90 single-best-answer multiple choice questions which will total 225 marks (75% of total mark)
Part IB: Applied Science, Natural History, Aetiology, Statistics, Bioethics (3 hours)
- 3 hour paper with 4 questions.
- Essay Questions (questions 1-3) = total of 75 marks (25% of total mark)
- MCQ (question 4) = 90 single-best-answer multiple choice questions which will total 225 marks (75% of total mark)
NOTE: Part IA and Part IB may be attempted together at the same examination sitting or on separate occasions, and in any sequence. Credit for one successful section does not require success in the other.
REQUIREMENTS:
- For admission to Part I of the examination, the candidate must hold a post-internship qualification to practise medicine which is registered or registrable with the Health Professions Council of South Africa
- The old Part I is only valid for a period of six (6) years.
