The Exam
FCEM PART 2 EXAM
The examination consists of 8 components:
- 3 written
- 5 oral / practical component
The Written Components:
- 2 written (consisting of 6 questions each, written over three hours) and
- 1 MCQ (multiple choice paper) – 100 questions over two hours.
The Examination is designed to cover the principles and practice of emergency medicine, including investigations, diagnosis, treatment and disposal.
The Oral/Practical Components:
- 15 OSPE stations (where a range of skills will be examined – including problem solving, clinical judgment, interpretation of investigations,
practical procedures and cost-effective management issues), - 2 short clinical cases
- 2 emergency simulations (where candidates will be expected to be able to elucidate and demonstrate relevant clinical signs, special investigations and procedures, and to synthesise and interpret their findings),
- 2 x 30 minute oral examinations with different sets of examiners.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 36 months in a numbered registrar training post.
- Critical Performance Portfolio.
