FCD EXAM OVERVIEW
The FCD (Fellowship of the College of Dentistry of South Africa) has 3 specialty examinations including:
- Oral Medicine and Periodontics: FCD(SA) OMP
- Orthodontics: FCD(SA) Orthod
- Prosthodontics: FCD(SA)
FCD PART I EXAM:
This is standardised across the 3 specialties and includes:
- 3 x written papers, 3 hours each
- 1. Anatomy, Embryology, Histology and Oral Biology
- 2. Physiology
- 3. Principles of Pathology including Microbiology
- MCQ’s and short questions
If a candidate is unsuccessful in either one of the Part I subjects, credit will be given for the passed subject(s) (minimum of 50%), and he/she will be able to re-write the failed subject(s). This exemption is only valid for two examination periods. If the candidate is again unsuccessful with one or two of these subjects, the entire examination will have to be taken at the next attempt, with only one (1) extra attempt.
REQUIREMENTS:
The candidate must be in possession of a qualification which entitles the holder thereof to register as a dentist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa
The CMSA Senate, through its Examinations and Credentials Committee, will review all applications for admission to the examination and may also review the ethical and professional standing of candidates
